Dear Shiloh Family,

I’m not a fan of living in the past, but last Sunday was an incredible day at Shiloh. I was so proud of our church family. The total worship experience, from the parking lot to the pew, was fantastic. Everyone stepped up to the plate and hit the proverbial homerun. Even our guests, Derik and Michelle, commented on the wonderful worship and warm love extended toward them and, of course, the dogs.

The sermon was spot-on and very timely. And yes, it was certainly enhanced by our new obedient k-9 friends. Perhaps, the most impressive thing to me was not necessarily how the dogs performed, but rather how they sat on their platforms for an hour without once even offering to vacate their assigned perch. Mac, the lone male, and youngest of the bunch actually napped for a time…until his name was called.

Exodus 33:17:17 So the Lord said to Moses, "I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name." NKJV

I was reminded of how our Heavenly Father often asks us to simply fill our place. Sometimes he isn’t asking us to do anything - don’t perform, don’t talk, don’t sing, don’t practice suggestions of the world view, and don’t pout and whine because someone else is in the spotlight. Just be there! However, when he calls our name, we are to follow His instructions to the letter…literally, His written letter.

John 10:2-6: 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers." NKJV

Thanks to everyone who signed up to work in AWANA. However, we still need a few more workers. We are also in need of a few teachers for Sunday School and small groups. Please, pray where God is calling you to serve, and listen for your name.

This Sunday is our annual Homecoming at Shiloh. Immediately following the morning service, we will have dinner and fellowship in the FLC. We ask each family to bring a covered dish, desert, or enough vittles to feed your family and one more person. However, if you can’t bring the fixings, you are just as welcome to stay and dine with us. It is a great time to invite lost friends and those looking for a church home.

August 30th, Mike Griffin, our GBC, Public Affairs liaison with the Capitol in Atlanta will be speaking for us in both services. You don’t want to miss him. Mike is always a blessing and an encourager.

It is often difficult to hear the voice of God when we are tuned in to so many others.

God bless you all,
Pastor Derrell
