Dear Shiloh Family,
The air was electric as the patrons entered the arena. Young and old sensed the excitement and anticipated the inevitable…many would leave happy as winners and overcomers. Hands were raised with number one’s and fist pumps as they cheered and celebrated their hero. The favorite team was displayed on hats and tees. Culinary delights were served to all who chose to partake, and side games and activities occupied remote spaces throughout the facilities. And the team, oh how the team meshed as one and performed to the apex of anticipation. There were definitely high scores and homeruns.
Of course, I’m speaking of the opening and closing ceremonies of Shiloh Baptist VBS. It was truly an amazing sight to see - adults and children harmoniously praising Jesus in symphonic worship. It was as if the World Series was being played on our campus. However, it wasn’t an athletic event - it was an angelic experience. Nearly three hundred souls offered praise from the depths of their souls.
Team Shiloh came together as a true body of Christ throughout the entire week. Paid staff and volunteers alike in one accord laid spiritual gifts before the Lord. I offer a heartfelt thanks to all who participated in our 2026 VBS. We had higher numbers than we’ve had in years, and you handled it with grace. A special thanks to the setup and breakdown crews. Your Pastor wants you to know that I realize the props and scenes don’t magically appear and disappear. Also, what a great testament to the work of Pastor David Brown and his leadership in the children’s, youth, and college ministries. And none of this happens without the behind-the-scenes, after-hours work of our secretary, Melissa Williams. Thanks guys.
I especially want to thank my wife, Anita, for her tireless efforts. I witnessed first-hand the countless hours you put in to make it possible. I saw the tears, felt the anxiety, and heard the prayers for the workers and those precious children. I thank you, and I love you very much.
The last night, the skit team and I sat behind the curtain with tears of pride as we listened to children, who possibly have never heard the name God spoken in spiritual context, yell to the top of their lungs, “He is good, He is God, He is good God Almighty.” Oh yes, and four of those precious children prayed to receive Christ as their personal Savior.
I say as the Apostle Paul,
1 Corinthians 1:3-7:3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, 5 that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, 6 even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, NKJV
I can think of no better quote than this,” I am proud to be the Pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church.”
God bless you all,
Pastor Derrell
