Dear Shiloh Family,
Two of our Grandbabies had been with us for a couple of days and it was time for them to go home. I could have said leave, but that would have given the implication of joy, which was not the case…this time. Caroline, the 6-yr-old princess really didn’t want to depart, but the next day was a school day.
“Why do I have to go to school”, she inquired matter-of-factly.
I smiled and replied, “Well, you have to learn so you can get a job when you are older.” Her nose wrinkled in disapproval.
“Well, just what do you want to do when you grow up?” I pried.
After a moment of deep contemplation, the little diva cocked her head sideways, and without one hint of bluff in her voice, replied, “Reeeeelax.”
Is that not priceless? However, can’t you relate? Sometimes, even as adults, we just don’t want to do anything. It seems harder and harder to simply have a moment to relax. I would like to say it is different for Pastors, but, unfortunately, it isn’t. In fact, I’m not sure it isn’t worse. I know Pastor David and the deacons will agree. Often, we try to carry all the burdens of the church, lift the weight of the depressed, and heal every pain of the injured. The cries of the sheep frequently drive sleep from the shepherd.
On the other hand, last week provided a bit of reward and solace for this pastor. Your kind words, beautiful cards, and generous love gifts lifted our spirits and refreshed our purpose. Thank you all so much for thinking of us on Pastor Appreciation Day.
In addition, the greatest spiritual shot-in-the-arm for me, was a new birth experience. Tuesday, Melissa and I had the privilege of leading a precious lady to Jesus. She prayed the sinner’s prayer in my office and committed to baptism. What a wonderful Pastor Appreciation gift!
Consequently, her conversion was a direct result of Mrs. Linda and the Ladies’ group. It is amazing how new birth often follows love and compassion.
I say amen to the instructions to the church at Ephesus;
Ephesians 3:17-21: 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height — 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. NKJV
Nothing leads people to Jesus like exemplifying the love of Jesus.
God bless you all,
Pastor Derrell
