Dear Shiloh Family,
Now, I know God has a sense of humor. Even on vacation, the Lord reminds us that we are who we are. The second day of a time away from everyday life, we pulled in after a great seafood dinner and wouldn’t you know it, a bus and two vans filled with 80 teenagers unloaded at our motel. That evening, they released the entire load on the Atlantic Ocean. The tribe attacked the waves at full force with no leader in sight and no lifeguard on duty. It was more than my heart could take. I could hardly bear to watch. You have to love it.
Another scene played out as I observed a young 8 year old and his Dad go through quarterback drills on the beach. They were doing some of the same steps and routines I do each day with my guys. The young man was serious and relentless in his quest for perfection. At some point, Dad said something or gave instruction that challenged the little man's pride or hurt his feelings. However, unlike a high school coach's reaction, the endeavor ended in a hug and an encouraging hair rustle.
You see, the father was just enforcing the game plan that the trainer had written. After a bit of inquiry, I discovered that the boy's quarterback coach was very famous and had given instructions to several NFL players. He knew what he was doing and what the lad needed to learn.
Psalm 32.8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
Psalm 86.11 Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.
Again, I was reminded that my Heavenly Father knows what I need. He is aware of where I am, always. He has written instructions for our benefit and for His glory. We can manipulate the circumstances, but the outcome will fall in line with His sovereignty. Consequently, the creator of the universe is still willing to love us and encourage us when we fail. He loves us so much, he gave his son to make us sons and daughters as well.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.
The path on which God leads us is never longer than His arms.
God bless you all,
Pastor Derrell
Thank You: From all of my heart, thank you for all you've done for me and my family during my mother's final days until her service and after. All the cards, flowers, the meal and visitation, and most importantly your prayers got me through. You are all truly my family and we love you all. Because of you, my heart is less heavy. Shiloh truly shows what Christ's love is.
Love,
Juanita & Family
