Dear Shiloh Family,
What a wonderful evening! The Main Auditorium was packed, and each Wednesday night Shiloh ministry was represented. The AWANA, and American flags stood majestically behind the awards table as leaders and staff doled out certificates, ribbons and trophies.
Proud parents and grandparents beamed as children, bedecked with hardware that represented scripture memory and completed workbooks posed and showed their pearly whites for photos. Applause and joyous cheers rang out as phone cams clicked. It was as if the AWANA team had won the spiritual world series.
I couldn’t help but think that even though the young’uns were being lauded, it was Mom who deserved much of the credit. I wondered how many collective hours of sleep were lost in order for each student to be there. How many shirts and skirts were near ruined with poop, puke, and punch? How many versions of Good Night Moon, Mary Had a Little Lamb, and Rock-a-By Baby were sung in the wee hours of the night? Oh, the number of anxious moms who must have smiled when they heard a child speak, or didn’t hear a rattle in little lungs. Think about how many gentle hands were placed on small chests to make sure a child was breathing properly. How many tears were shed, and prayers were offered?
Someday, many of these little rug rats will become full grown mommies and daddies. Then, and only then, will they fully understand what it took to will them into adulthood. I, for one, am so fortunate to have a mom who still cheers, hurts, and prays for her children.
To my Mom, and all those who read this letter…thank you, from the depts of my soul.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY! God bless you all.
We will be celebrating Mother’s Day this Sunday. There will be two services as usual. We will also be baptizing in the second service.
Proverbs 6:20-22: 20 My son, keep your father's command,
And do not forsake the law of your mother. 21 Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck. 22 When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you. NKJV
Dad may build the house, but Mom energizes the home.
God bless you all,
Pastor Derrell
