Dear Shiloh Family,

The young salesman raised an eyebrow as the rickety pickup rolled onto the parking lot.  He chuckled as the old gentleman ambled out and sauntered toward the new Chevys.  The two exchanged nods through the showroom window as the shopper strolled by in his Rocky work boots, Liberty overalls, and Braves ball cap.

Another salesman, fresh off his lunch break, noticed the fellow slowly walking around a particular fleet side pickup.  It presented a great opportunity to practice his skills, and the man bore a great resemblance to his grandfather. So, he decided if nothing else, he would invest time in the human race.  “That’s some more truck.”

“Yep”, grunted the interested buyer.  “Does it have a 350 in it?”

“Shore does.  And that particular vehicle has positive traction, power steering, and air conditioning as well.  Would you like to drive it?”

“Nope, probably drives like a new un.”

Chuckling, the younger man replied, “Well, let’s go in out of the sun and talk about it.”

     “Sounds like a winner.”

Once inside, the two talked about the weather, politics, and the Braves’ terrible pitching.  Finally, the old man matter-of-factly asked, “You gonna give me your bottom dollar? I don’t wanna talk to yore sales manager or boss or the guy who sells them extended warranties.  Round it off to the best thousand.”

The adding machine rattled for a few minutes, the salesman wrote down a few figures, and then slid a piece of paper across the desk.

The frustrated buyer wrinkled his brow and replied, “Take them numbers off the end, round it off to $15,000.00, and we got a deal.”

The half doubting, half confused car pusher shook his head and affirmed that he could probably meet the price, but inquired how the old farmer wanted to finance the truck.

“Sonny, I’ve worked hard all my life.  I never borrowed a dime from anybody, and I ain’t startin now.  If we got a deal, I’ll just pay you for it.”  At this point, the wise old gent stood up, reached in those worn-out Liberty overalls, pulled out a roll, and counted out 15, $1000 bills.

He had worked hard, saved hard, and invested hard.  The old man knew what he wanted and brought the money to fulfill the need.  The first salesman just didn’t understand what real stewardship looked like.

We have an opportunity to have anything we want at Shiloh.  It’s not about what we look like nor what we drive onto the lot.  It’s about what we put into it.  This Chest of Joash campaign and the next year is paramount to moving forward in the ministry of the Lord.  Many of you are working hard, saving hard, and investing hard in the ministries of your church.  You are storing up heavenly treasures with supernatural returns.  I don’t want to be like that first salesman and miss the blessings God has for us.

Matthew 6:19-21: 19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;  20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. NKJV

Please, pray how God wants to use you next Sunday and the rest of the year.  You can have the church you want for your children and grandchildren.

We will end the service this Sunday with a time of giving and prayer for our church.  There will be no pressure, but I hope all will at least bring your family by the chest and pray together.

You will also be given the opportunity to pledge a monthly love gift above your regular tithes. This monthly pledge will be applied directly to the principle of the loan. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us this Sunday and beyond in your families.

Luke 6:38: Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."  NKJV

Stewardship without giving is nothing more than a worldly savings account. However, the returns of a Godly stewardship are out of this world.

God bless you all,

Pastor Derrell
